Real business landscape
Sectors I know well in Valladolid.
Valladolid is at the same time the administrative capital of Castilla y León, an industrial hub inherited from the INI era and a centre of advanced services. The coexistence of the regional public administration with large private employers sets the pace. These are the five areas I work in most.
Regional public administration
The Junta de Castilla y León, the Cortes, the regional ministries and dependent bodies concentrate in Valladolid a critical mass of relevant public procurement: process digitalisation, ENS (Spanish National Security Framework), IT services, training and institutional communication. For any consultancy aiming to bid, the documentary requirements (RD 311/2022 ENS, GDPR, WCAG 2.1 accessibility) are the minimum passport.
I work with firms bidding to the Junta on two fronts: preparing the compliance documentation the tender requires (technical report, responsible declaration, certificates) and building a supplier-brand narrative that goes beyond box-ticking and helps win points on technical valuation.
Automotive industry
Renault España runs in Valladolid one of its pillar plants (Engines and Bodywork-Assembly) with more than 5,000 direct jobs, Iveco builds medium and heavy trucks in its Valladolid factory, and Michelin produces tyres in Aranda with regional production presence. Around the three majors orbit dozens of Tier 2 and 3 suppliers with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements.
My work with automotive suppliers focuses on positioning the supplier brand in trade fairs and RFQs (technical presentations, use cases, B2B branded content) and on keeping current the compliance the OEM will audit: ISO 27001 when there is exchange of engineering data, GDPR for payroll and HR, ENS if they bid to the public sector.
Pharmaceutical industry
Lilly keeps in Alcalá de Henares and a Valladolid plant production of vials and parenteral medicines supplying the European market. Around them, suppliers of packaging equipment, quality control and technical services have grown. GMP compliance is the base, and on top sit the integrated ISO 9001+14001+27001 systems the buyer demands.
For a pharma-supplying SME I prepare a commercial-technical dossier (capacity, quality, traceability) and build the documentary system that allows passing a Lilly audit without surprises. The difference between bidding and winning is almost always in how compliance is presented.
Aerospace sector
The Castilla y León aerospace cluster (CESDA, predecessor of the current association) gathers component, precision machining and maintenance firms serving Airbus and European Tier-1s. Valladolid concentrates several of the cluster heads, with AS/EN 9100 and NADCAP requirements that raise the bar well above industrial average.
I work with aerospace suppliers on international positioning (presence in Aerospace & Defense Meetings-type fairs, a technical website able to speak to a European buyer) and on integrating the ISO family with AS 9100 without duplicating documentary effort.
Agri-food industry
Valladolid concentrates cooperatives and dairy and meat firms supplying national distribution, plus the DO Cigales and DO Rueda nearby. The sector lives under continuous IFS, BRC and FSSC 22000 pressure, nutritional labelling and emerging blockchain traceability. Medium cooperatives are those that most need to professionalise brand to compete with private label.
My work with Valladolid agri-food blends branding (from cooperative to brand with its own personality), DO/IGP focus as a commercial asset, and integrated compliance, aligning IFS+ISO 14001 so as not to run two parallel systems that cost twice as much.
